What's in our race gear bag?

What's in our race gear bag?

Packing, for us, is a two-fold challenge. First we pack as we will be travelling sometimes interstate or overseas to race and then there is the actual race gear we need.

Slowly, we are getting this down to a fine art. Here's what we you'll find in our gear bags.

1. Race suit, fire under layer, socks, shoes, helmet, balaclava, gloves, helmet

2. Earmolds - earplugs with wired comms that connect to our helmet and are a custom made fit for our ears.

3. Cleaning cloths - a stack of microfibre cloths to keep our helmet lenses clean and visibility at it's best while racing

4. HANS (Head and Neck) device - we use the Simpson Hybrid device

5. Extra helmet visors - clear and yellow

6. SD card holder - to store our GPS SD cards when they are not in our GPS

7. Once we're dressed, the clothes and other items we were wearing (but are now not) go into our gear bags

In the trophy ute, or any race car, we also pack a few essentials that we never race without.

1. Extra microfibre cloths - in a spot they will stay dry and relatively un-dusty

2. Hats and sunnies, lip balm, mobile phones - a lesson learnt from our many DNFs, once your helmet comes off, you will wish you had these items

3. Cash and stickers - another DNF lesson, plenty of random spectators and other teams offer help, and so we like to be able to chuck in for their fuel with some cash. Having team stickers is also a must, so they can be handed out to spectators or as part of our Thank You to those who help us out until our crew arrive

4. DNF Kit a.k.a a flask of a adults only drink, never a beverage we enjoy drinking, that is reserved to only be drunk if we fail to finish

Share to help others learn!

These items are the basics and can change depending on the race length and location.

What are your must-have items? Was there anything on this list you don't carry?
